What Makes it Unique: After three years of perfecting his recipe, Colonel Jim Porter released NEWCASTLE BROWN ALE in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1927. Shortly thereafter, it became firmly known as the favored beer of North East England and its iconic status continued to spread throughout the UK. It's actually brewed now by Lagunitas and Heineken. And sells more in the US than the UK.

New Castle is a great gateway beer. It isn't too heavy that a typical beer drinker would find it too much. But it's also not completely lacking in flavor. There are a lot of subtle notes in it. And hey, here is proof I can give a beer a good rating if it's not high ABV! I also do like some lagers in spite of how harsh I have been on some. You'll see one or two in the future I actually do like. But anyway, NewCastle, good stuff.
